Most of our customers are very particular about the cleanliness of their homes. One of the most common questions we get is about cellular shades. How do you clean cellular shades and how to do you take care of them?
There are a few easy ways to do it:
1. Dust with a feather duster. First, just take a dry feather duster, and dust it like you would any of the items in your house. This will get dust and pet hair out of the cells.
2. Blow the dust out with a hair dryer. If they’ve been up for awhile and some dust or dirt has accumulated in the cell—remember, it’s a front pleat and a back pleat that make the cell—if dust has built up in there, you can just take a hair dryer and blow it through the cells. Be sure not to get too close so you don’t burn the material.
3. Blot for stains. Cellular shades are resistant to staining but if you do get a stain, just take a little bit of warm water on a cloth and blot the stain. That should get it out. Obviously, the quicker you can get to the stain, the easier it will be to remove.
4. Professional cleaning. If they’ve been up for a very long time, say, several years, you’ll want to get an ultrasonic cleaning done by a professional cleaner. Perhaps you can add this to your plan if you have a use a cleaning service regularly.
But most of the time, probably 85% of the time, all you will need is the feather duster, and maybe a quick blast with a hair dryer. These are so easy to care for!
